Performs full range of classification functions applying OPM general schedule and wage system classification standards.  Conducts job audits and consistency reviews.



  • Review and validate already established PDs for complete and updated OF-8 equivalent document.
  • Classify full range of GS and FWS positions.
  • Complete position classification actions across General Schedule and Excepted Service Personnel Programs and within specialized pay systems.
  • May manage PD Library.
  • May prepare narrative evaluation statements.
  • May work with automated classification tool.
  • May prepares activity reports.
  • Reviews work of peers and lower level staff,
  • May serve as SME for classification actions and on special projects.
  • May review and approve work.
  • Reviews proposed revisions to position descriptions and implements new or revised classification standards.
  • Some positions available as Lead Classification Specialists overseeing work of lower level or other senior Classifiers.
  • Develops and implements classification program process improvements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Utilize productivity management applications, such as ServiceNow, to track work, document processing efforts and outcomes, and communicate with customers throughout processing efforts.
  • Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of system enhancements associated with assigned work area.


  • Six years specialized experience performing Federal Classification duties utilizing OPM Classification Handbook.
  • Experience within past 5 years conducting desk audits.
  • Proficiency to perform assigned work in both an automated and non-automated state.
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or obtain an approved accommodation request (as required by law) within 30 days of employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prior experience leading HR classification teams.
  • Experience with DOC CAPS classification program.
  • Experience using productivity management tools to manage and complete work.
  • Experience supporting system enhancement efforts associated with assigned work area.
